In Monument Valley, as a horizontally laid geologic unit, (forming skirts), under the (cliffs)-De Chelly Sandstone, (its en:Type locality (geology) is Canyon De Chelly (National Monument), of northeast Arizona). The top of the cliffs are covered by (horizontal interbeds)-Moenkopi Formation (central-southeast Utah, northeast Arizona), and overlain again by (local deposits)-(resistant-en:caprock)-Shinarump Conglomerate (lowest-basal member)-Chinle Formation, (of southeast Utah, northeast Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado).
