English: Scottish & Newcastle was a brewer formed in 1960 through the merger of Scottish Brewers with Newcastle Breweries. Further expansion came with the acquisition of Courage in 1995, leading to the use of the brand Scottish Courage for S&N's UK breweries, but this reverted to S&N UK in February 2006. Latterly based in Scotland it was the UK's largest brewer and also a global brewer with a stock market listing, until being delisted on 29 April 2008 after the company was bought by and split between Heineken and Carlsberg. Heineken gained the UK operations in the split, renaming the now delisted Scottish & Newcastle Ltd to Heineken UK Ltd on 23 November 2009.
