English: Shuzenji Onsen is the oldest hot spring resort in Izu, Shizuoka, Japan. It is believed to be discovered by the Buddhist monk Kūkai in the early 9th century. Shuzenji Onsen became popular after it was depicted in the literary works by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa, Kyōka Izumi, Natsume Sōseki and Yasunari Kawabata in the 20th century. There are at least 20 Japanese-style inns open.
