Februar 1928 in Kreis Franzburg-Barth erweitert. Ab 1.
English: District of Stralsund or Stralsund District (in German 1818-1928: Kreis Franzburg, 1928-1938: Kreis Franzburg-Barth, 1939-1945: Landkreis Franzburg-Barth, 1945-1952: Landkreis Stralsund) was the last name of a district in northwestern Pomerania (also called New Hither Pomerania, or former Swedish Pomerania), formed in 1818 from the Swedish Härade or Amt Franzburg and thus originally called Kreis Franzburg (i.e. Franzbur district). The district formed part of the Stralsund Region between 1818 and 1932, and then between 1932 and 1945 of the Stettin Region. At first the district administration (Landratsamt) had its seat in Franzburg in Pomerania. On 1 October 1925 the district administration moved from Franzburg to the town of Barth. Therefore, on 1 February 1928 the district name was extended to Kreis Franzburg-Barth (i.e. Franzburg-Barth district). On 1 January 1939 the Nazis replaced the various terms for districts in the federal German state by the new uniform term Landkreis (rural district), with the Stralsund District's name becoming Landkreis Franzburg-Barth. After the end of the Second World War the district administration moved again, this time to Stralsund, itself nom part of the district, and thus its name changed to Landkreis Stralsund. In 1952 the Stralsund district was dissolved and mostly divided between the new districts of Stralsund-Land and Ribnitz-Damgarten.
