Tower Road Bridge was built as a rolling-lift bascule bridge at Birkenhead Dock with a similar-looking fixed truss bridge on the approach to it, across the adjacent and now-unused channel. It was replaced in 2017 - 18 with a semi-through steel box girder single leaf rolling bascule bridge built by Dawnus Construction from Swansea.
