English: Townships in the United States are usually of two types: the survey township, a square area used in land survey descriptions, and described with numbers; and the civil township, a subdivision of a county, and is usually named or given a serial number. Civil townships often follow the borders of survey townships, but always. A few states allow a civil township to incorporate as if it were a municipality.
