This paleontological restoration is highly hypothetical, as very little fossil material of the animal is known. Use of this image might be controversial. Reason: Known from scant remains and probably belongs to an unnamed genus, exact taxonomic position poorly understood |
Summary
[edit]Description"Antarctosaurus" giganteus Size Chart.svg |
English: Hypothetical size of Antarctosaurus giganteus, a giant sauropod dinosaur from South America. 'A'.giganteus was described by von Huene in 1929 and is known from very fragmentry remains; two femurs, partial pubic bones and fragments of ribs, 6 unidentifiable long bones, and two caudal vertebrae. Of these remains, the femurs and the pubis were illustrated in the monograph that described the species and are shown in the silhouette in white. The femurs measure ~2.35 meters long and estimates place the total length at around ~30 meters long. Researchers consider 'A'.giganteus as either as a dubious species or deserving of it's own genus. |
