Description
English: In this 1892 editorial cartoon in Judge magazine, Democrats try to raise Grover Cleveland from "the bottom of the sea" (alluding to the popular song "Down Went McGinty", whose lyrics are parodied in the caption).

The sailors are (left to right), (on boat named Democracy) Adlai Stevenson, Robert E. Pattison, Calvin Brice, and Leon Abbett; manning the air pumps on the boat named Mugwump Party is George William Curtis. The divers are (clockwise from lower left) John Griffin Carlisle, Roger Q. Mills, William C. Whitney, Arthur Pue Gorman, Patrick Collins, and Charles Fairchild. A ribbon on the lapel of McGinty/Cleveland reads Free Trade.
