English: Informal "Gypsy colours of Spain" (that is, tricolor of the Spanish Romanies), as reported by Thomas Powys, 4th Baron Lilford in 1890; shades of red and yellow as per the Spanish tricolor, which Lilford indicated as a relevant standard. See David MacRitchie, "Notes and Queries. Gypsy Colours", in Journal of the Gypsy Lore Society, Vol. II, Issue 1, January 1890, p. 60 (Lilford quoted as an anonymous source), and "Reviews. The Tinkler-Gypsies by Andrew McCormick", in Journal of the Gypsy Lore Society (new series), Vol. I, Issue 3, January 1908, p. 282 (where Lilford is specifically mentioned). Subsequently used by the Gypsy Lore Society as symbolic for the entire Romani nation (see: Katy Hooper, Picturing Gypsies.
