Description
Português: O Rio São Francisco, conhecido como o Velho Chico, foi através dele que se fizeram as primeiras tentativas de colonização do território sergipano, no início do século XVII.

Gararu, localizada na região norte do estado de Sergipe e às margens do Rio São Francisco, a 161 Km de Aracaju, foi descoberta em 4 de outubro de 1501. Primitivamente Gararu chamou-se Curral-de-Pedras em consequência da existência na área de currais cujas paredes são construídas de pedras.

O Rio São Francisco, é um dos orgulhos do povo nordestino. O velho Chico é um destino turístico cada vez mais procurado, a todos que visitam a cidade de Gararu. Em minutos de navegação, o rio revela seu encanto, água cristalina e calma é cercada por belas formações rochosas, e mesmo com água em abundância a vegetação na área é de caatinga.
