Ο Χριστουγεννιάτικος στολισμός με κλαδιά και καρπούς δέντρων από την τοπική χλωρίδα, έχει τις ρίζες του στους Βυζαντινούς χρόνους και στην αρχαία Ελλάδα.Στο Βυζάντιο συνήθιζαν να στολίζουν ένα δέντρο της αυλής του σπιτιού κρεμώντας δώρα στα κλαδιά για τους φτωχούς περαστικούς.Μετά την Άλωση το έθιμο μεταφέρθηκε στη βόρεια Ευρώπη , με στολισμό ελάτων και αργότερα ήρθε πάλι πίσω το 1830 από τους Βαυαρούς.
