Description
Русский: Озеро Эльтон является одним из интереснейших объектов природы Волгоградской области. Это самое большое по площади минеральное озеро Европы и одно из самых минерализованных в мире. Название озера Эльтон произошло от казахского «Алтын-Нур», что означает «Золотое озеро» из-за пурпурово-красного цвета его воды (рапы), отливающего в золотой, что случается временно, обыкновенно после полудня, когда солнце склоняется к западу.

Озеро заполнено рапой (насыщенный солевой раствор), в составе которого содержатся соли NaCl и KCl. Уровень рапы меняется в зависимости от времени года - зимой и весной может доходить до 1,5 м, а летом всего 5-8 см. Толщина же пласта соли и сегодня ещё точно не определена.

Осенью 2001 года было принято решение о создании Природного парка "Эльтонский"
