Description
English: The method of weaving a web is species-specific - that is, the shape of the web can determine what kind of spiders its web. One of the most common species of spiders in Ukraine is the cross spider from the genus Araneomorphic spiders. The photo shows two wheel-shaped nets of a cross spider (Araneus diadematus) at different stages of weaving, which makes it possible to trace different stages of the process. Every one or two days, spiders destroy the web and weave a new one, as the old one is destroyed due to insects getting into it. Most often, spiders build a web at night. It has 39 radii, 35 turns of the spiral and 1245 points of attachment of radii to the spiral. This is the result of a "programmed" complex of spider movements, genetically fixed, respectively, inherent in all individuals of the species, including young individuals.
