Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Tracheal bubbles of the larva of the Chaoborus. Dark field + polarization. These bubbles are hydrostatic apparatus. They hold the larva in the water in a horizontal position and help regulate the depth of immersion. Bubbles are covered with dark pigment cells that can resize. If the cells are expanded, then due to the absorption of light by them, the tracheal bubbles heat up and increase in volume, as a result of which the larva begins to float up. The compression of the pigment cells leads to the lowering of the larva to a depth. The change in the size of these cells is shown in the photo.
