Description
English: Tracheal bladders midge larvae Chaoborus. Dark field +polarization. These bubbles are hydrostatic apparatus. They hold the larva in the water in a horizontal position and help regulate the depth of immersion. Bubbles are covered with dark pigment cells that can resize. If the cells expanded due to absorption of light, tracheal bubbles heat up and increase in volume in consequence of diffusion gas from the blood, the specific weight of larvae decreases, in consequence of which the larva begins to float up. The compression of pigment cells leads to the lowering of the larva to a depth of.
