Русский: Древнее народное предание об основах образования будущего Лебедянского монастыря повествует нам о строительстве храма в честь святого пророка Илии в дремучем лесу на поляне, называвшейся «Яблоновая», боярином Тяпкиным в XIV веке во времена великого князя московского Иоанна Данииловича Калиты.
Боярин Тяпкин был послан с данью в Орду к хану Узбеку. Соблазнившись золотом и серебром, забрав богатство, он собрал шайку вольницы, стал их атаманом, поселился на высоком берегу Дона. Но религиозный дух русского народа был присущ и вольным людям. В одном из набегов ими был захвачен в плен священник-монах, который впоследствии совершал богослужения в выстроенном двухэтажном каменном храме в честь святого пророка Илии. Духовное руководство священника-монаха принесло добрые плоды – он стал духовным пастырем и наставником атамана с товарищами, а сам Тяпкин под конец своей жизни удалился в созданную им монашескую обитель, называемую «Яблонова пустынь», и принял пострижение в монашество. Многое претерпела обитель: разорение татарами, грабежи разбойников, но промыслом Божиим не осталась забытой. В 1621 году по благословению патриарха Филарета, в царствование первого великого государя из династии Романовых, в монастыре вновь была возобновлена иноческая жизнь. Первый великий государь из династии Романовых – Михаил Федорович – издал указ о юридическом закреплении за обителью всего принадлежащего ей имущества. Это означало признание за монастырем официального статуса. Случилось это в 1628 году. Мужская иноческая обитель называлась «Яблонова пустынь». В течение XVII века монастырь переживает период строительства храмов и мощной монастырской стены-ограды из кирпича на случай военных действий.
