עברית: בית הקירור תוכנן על ידי האדריכל אריה שרון והוקם בשנת 1942. מטרתו הייתה לאחסן בקירור תוצרת חקלאית: תפוחי אדמה ותפוחי עץ ממשקיהם של איכרי היישוב והסביבה. הצורך בהקמת בית הקירור נבע מהעובדה שהיבול שנאסף בבת אחת גרם לירידת מחירי השוק. המגדלים התארגנו, גייסו כספים ממקורות עצמיים ובנו את בית הקירור. כך יכלו לשמור על התוצרת החקלאית ולווסת את השיווק בהתאם למחיר הרצוי. בזמן מלחמת העצמאות שימש בית הקירור גם להסתרת נשק. בתי קירור דומים, אשר תוכננו על ידי אריה שרון, הוקמו במקומות שונים בארץ: רמת יוחנן, קיבוץ משמרות, בית חירות ועוד.
בשנת 2017 הסתיימו עבודות השימור של המבנה, בתמיכתה של המועצה לשימור אתרים, וכעת הוא משמש כארכיון היישוב. |
