English: Papilio polytes, the common Mormon, is a common species of swallowtail butterfly widely distributed across Asia.
Freshly moulted third instar caterpillar of common mormon butterfly. The third instar caterpillar is mostly similar to the second instar caterpillar but the markings on the body like the brown patches changes to dark brown or black in colour and the white patches on the dorsal side becomes more prominent and makes it look like the bird dropping. POP : Tamil Nadu, Indiaதமிழ்: கறிவேப்பிலை அழகி என்பது இந்தியா, பாகிஸ்தான்,நேபாளம்,இலங்கை, மற்றும் பல பகுதிகளில் காணப்படும் அழகிகள் குடும்பத்தை சேர்ந்த வண்ணத்துப்பூச்சி ஆகும். கறிவேப்பிலை தாவரம் இவற்றின் புழு பருவத்தில் உணவாகும் தாவரம் என்பதால் தமிழில் இவற்றிற்கு கறிவேப்பிலை அழகி என்ற பெயர் அமைந்துள்ளது.
கரு நிற உடல் மற்றும் சிறகுகளை கொண்டிருக்கும். சிறகுகள் வெண்ணிற புள்ளிகள் அல்லது கீற்றுக்களை கொண்டிருக்கும்.இவ்வினத்தின் பெண் வண்ணத்துப்பூச்சிகள் பல்லுருத்தோற்ற அமைப்பை பெற்றுள்ளன. பெண் பூச்சிகள் தோற்றத்தில் உரோசா அழகி அல்லது சிவப்புடல் அழகி வண்ணத்துப்பூச்சிகளை போன்று காணப்படும். இவை இவற்றின் புழு பருவத்தில் உணவாகும் தாவர இலைகளின் மேற்பகுதியில் தனித்தனியே முட்டைகளை இடும். முட்டைகள் மஞ்சள் அல்லது வெளிர் ஆரஞ்சு நிறத்தில் உருண்டையாக காணப்படும். முட்டைகள் 3 முதல் 4 நாட்களில் பொரிந்துவிடும். முட்டையில் இருந்து வெளி வந்தவுடன் முட்டையின் ஓட்டினை அதன் முதல் உணவாக கொள்ளும். முதற்கட்ட புழுப்பருவமானது முட்கள் நிறைந்த தோற்றத்துடன் காணப்படும். இரண்டாம் கட்ட புழு பருவமானது முதல் தோற்றத்தில் இருந்து வேறுபட்டும் முட்களற்றும் காணப்படும். மூன்றாம் கட்ட புழுப்பருவமானது இரண்டாம் கட்ட தோற்றத்தை ஒத்தும் பறவையின் எச்சத்தை போன்ற தோற்றத்திலும் காணப்படும். மேலே உள்ள படம் புதிதாக உரு மாற்றம் அடைந்த மூன்றாம் கட்ட புழு பருவ நிலை ஆகும். |
