Description
English: ‘Le Grand Hôtel’ - ‘White Residence’ – ‘The Grand’ Nieuwpoort, Belgium. Le Grand Hôtel werd in 1924 ontworpen door architect Apollon Lagache met Beaux-Arts elementen en art deco toetsen (voltooid in 1929). Tijdens de oorlogsjaren (WO-II) werd het hotel eerst als krijgshospitaal gebruikt en later viel het in handen van de Duitse troepen. Na WO-II werd het hotel te koop gesteld. Tussen 1958 en 1963 werd het gebouw omgevormd tot een vakantieresidentie en herdoopt tot ‘White Residence’. In 1981 werd het gebouw een beschermd monument. In 2018 werd het pand gesloten wegens veiligheidsoverwegingen. In 2021 werd besloten het beschermde monument te renoveren onder de nieuwe naam The Grand. (foto’s genomen op monumentendag 11/09/2022)
