  • 青森ではヒキガエルの卵同様にアカガエルの卵もよくみられる。ヒキガエルは住宅地付近の池や沼、側溝などでも見られるが、アカガエルの卵は山間部の林道脇にある水溜りや小さな池で見られる。宅地開発などでもともと山だった場所の児童公園などでも散見されるも、年月と共に見られなくなることから、何処にでも住める訳では無さそうだ。
  • 卵塊の大きさは縦横の最大幅がおよそ１０ｘ１０ｃｍから１０ｘ２０ｃｍほどのぼこぼこした楕円形。産卵直後はキャビアみたいな塊だが、核を取り巻くゼリー状の膜が水を吸って膨らみ、写真のようになる。核の色が違うのは受精卵と無精卵の違いと思われる。（拡大写真を参照）
