Description
English: In 1971, Ma Yucheng, the director of Tangrong Fire-Resistant Materials Factory (formally a brick kiln) dismantled the two Hoffman Kilns and converted them into 3 Down-Draft Kilns; the one left, is located in the north-eastern part of the kiln compound.

Stacked together with bricks, the Kiln’s wall face and kiln roof were furthered strengthened with iron-made pieces in order to prevent cracks caused by overloading and thermal expansion. The exterior walls of the Kiln are Dutch-Bond brick walls without plastering, forming an east-west gradation rising towards the roof in an arch curve. The interior walls are stacked together with fire bricks and downward ventilation tunnels, the idea being to draft the heat downwards for even permeation throughout the entire kiln, and then to channel all the disposed air for emission via the chimney.

From the industry perspective, the Kiln bears critical witness to the evolution of Taiwan’s industrialization, and the industrial value provided by its building materials contain substantial historical significance in Taiwan’s industrial and economic development. For an extended overview of Taiwan’s entire industry, it remains an indispensable industrial & cultural landmark in the evolution of Taiwan’s industrial development.
