中文（臺灣）：本文目的為探討愛河6度更名的始末，並試圖釐清對於愛河名稱沿用的相關問題。
17世紀時期，在現存可知的古地圖中尚未標示名稱。清治初期，根據《鳳山縣志》、《續修鳳山縣志》，被稱為「硫磺港」或「硫磺水港」，為愛河的某一河段；至清治後期，《鳳山縣採訪冊》則記載為「船仔頭港」、「田尾港」、「龍水港」以及「鹽埕港」。日治時期稱其為「打狗川」、「高雄川」、「高雄運河」。戰後時期，政府來臺後沿用「高雄川」之名、後稱為「高雄河」。1949年，記者誤稱其為「愛河」，後遂沿用之。1968年，為向蔣中正及宋美齡祝壽，由市民建議，經市議會通過，1970年愛河更名為「仁愛河」。1991年，市議會順應民意，再將河名改回愛河。 從上述介紹愛河早期是重要的通商河川，隨著城市發展，成為城市象徵之一。正因是高雄象徵之一，隨著不同政治需求，也數度改名，故可從中看到高雄發展的歷史。 |
