English: Camphor had mainly been used medically before it become an important material for chemical engineering between the late 19th and early 20th century. Chinese doctors used it to treat rheumatism, tinea, cholera, etc., while western doctors used it as a heart stimulant or to treat skin diseases and nervous debility. In daily life, camphor was also used to repel insects, produce fragrance, or burn incense for religious ceremonies in India. |
