義民祠記 碑文 古者寓兵於農，制賦以治，七年之教，所由興矣。若夫規營以習軍旅，設卡以資捍禦，國家誠賴有此邊衛為也；民何與焉？ 台灣隸中國土百有餘年矣，荷蘭之築、鄭氏之據、朱一貴之亂，生靈塗炭，靡有寧居！嗣是戍台之兵額設一萬二千六百六十有奇，瓜期不爽，山海敉寧；加以聖化昭宣，無遠弗屆，熙熙然莫不有尊親之戴，何其安也！然而時安則兵懈，兵懈則民驕，民驕則藏奸匿宄漸起而滋事矣。洎歲丙午冬十有一月，餘甫下車，適林逆謀逞不軌，浹旬之間席卷一廳三縣，荼毒官兵，到處焚掠。時大兵未集，慨郡治之孤危，岌岌乎有日蹙之勢矣。用召壯士，大舉義旗。不三四日，凡台屬泉、粵莊、番社之民感生義憤，輒以萬計。為制營帳、備器械，內守外御。南、北諸路又廣為招募，以與賊眾拒。則夫荷戈與殳、抉命爭首，其間蓋不免師或輿尸焉。於是皇上特詔撫恤之，所以愛我民也實甚！ 夫古今來，功在民社，固有廟祀奕祀以垂無窮；彼其身任義民，執干戈以衛社稷而因而陣亡者，亦得與祀。今自敉定以來，已三載矣，海宇澄清，依然熙皞！則餘忝守茲土，安可不仰體天心以酬此義氣忠魂於罔替也耶？爰集清俸，詳請建立祠宇，度城北隙地構數椽而為之；所以視古之死於疆場之間、魂無以歸、靈無以為附，得斯祠也，庶幾忠魂有所棲息乎？是為記 時 乾隆五十五年七月榖旦，知台灣府事柳州楊廷理書。 |
