中文（臺灣）：這批相片由台灣新聞報記者於1996年7月9日拍攝，主題為高屏鐵路電氣化工程完工試車。高屏鐵路於1996年6月底完成通電，7月9日臺灣省政府交通處長鍾正行前往高雄車站視察，並且試乘區間電聯車。

鐵路屏東線是高雄站至枋寮站的路段。1908年基隆至高雄間的縱貫線通車，總督府為了讓阿緱製糖所（今屏東糖廠）貨物不用經由水路運到高雄，因此計劃興建屏東線。由於高雄、屏東間橫跨著下淡水溪（今高屏溪），當時人花費2年時間於1913年完成橋樑，是當時日本最長的鐵道橋，1914年高雄屏東段正式通車。隨後路線陸續向南延伸，1920年通車至潮州，1941年至枋寮。

為改善高雄與屏東間的交通，政府推動高屏鐵路雙線化，新高屏溪鐵路橋於1988年完工，舊鐵橋停用，1990年6月完工通車。隨後政府開始推動高屏鐵路電氣化工程，於1996年9月14日通車。

臺灣的重大交通建設以連接臺北與高雄兩大都市為主，屏東縣則容易受到忽略，例如1978年通車的中山高速公路、1979年完成的西部幹線鐵路電氣化、2007年通車的台灣高鐵都沒有經過屏東。高屏鐵路電氣化使高雄、鳳山、屏東市間居民往來更為方便，但屏東縣其他車站則仍為非電氣化區間，火車速度慢、班次少且班距長。屏東潮州段電氣化於2015年通車，潮州枋寮段於2019年完成，南迴線枋寮知本段於2020年完工，這也標誌著臺灣環島鐵路全面電氣化的完成。
