[edit]Description004182023 Chandi Devi temple and historic Water tanks, Nirmand Himachal Pradesh 042.jpg |
English: The Chandi Devi temple is a 7th-century temple near the historic water tanks in Nirmand, Himachal Pradesh. It is one of the oldest temple and public water tanks infrastructure that has survived in the Kullu-Manali region.
The monument called the "Ancient Baoli" is built of dressed stone masonry with embedded Hindu artwork. This is difficult to date because of a lack of a relevant inscription and the fact that the artwork could have been inserted in a later century. The village is certainly 7th-century or earlier, because of Samudra Sena copper grant found in nearby Ambika Devi temple. The water tank style and the artwork it contains is pre-10th century. The Chandi Devi temple is dedicated to Kali form of Durga. It is behind the water tanks. The panels belonging to the Chandi Devi temple include Shiva, Nandi, Vishnu, and eroded artwork of Hindu goddesses that are difficult to discern. Between the Chandi temple and watertanks are few miniature Hindu temples in pre-10th century style. |
