Description
Français : 13e siècle ; 16e siècle ; 18e siècle L'actuel monastère se trouve à l'emplacement d'une première fondation établie en faveur des chevaliers de l'ordre du Temple. En 1140, la comtesse Mahaut de Chateaudun, veuve de Geoffroy Grisegonelle comte de Vendôme, donna aux Templiers le terrain sur lequel ils bâtirent leur résidence et leur église. En 1223, les Templiers cédèrent leur maison aux Cordeliers. En 1589, la ville est prise par Henri IV, le couvent pillé et l'église incendiée. Le cloître fut restauré dans son état actuel, s'ouvrant sur la cour par cinq arcades. En 1790, les religieux furent explusés. En 1792, le couvent fut vendu comme bien national.
