English: The Karikkad Subrahmanyam complex in Manjeri has many historic shrines. Of these two for Subrahmanyam – Thekkam Thevar and Vadakkam Thevar – face east. The Dharmasastha temple faces west, standing in front and middle of the two. Smaller shrines exist such as for Ganesha, Bhagavathy (Parvati). These temples have namaskaram-mandapam, sopanam, mukha mandapam, dhwaja sthambam and bali pitha. Four inscriptions help date this temple to the 11th-century, with some scholars dating one Subrahmanyam and the Sastha temple to the 10th-century. The Karikkkad Subrahmanya temples complex is notable for featuring historic Hindu temples with apsidal, circular and square plans. The apsidal Hindu temple is the older pre-10th century style, with a 1:1:5 floor plan (the later temples achieved apsidal form with a 1:1 floor plan where a square was fused to a hemisphere). It is also notable for its Hindu artwork from wood carvings and murals. This site is associated with the Yajurveda tradition.
