| Description |
English: CF de l’Etat 40 Class/SNCF Class 141TD 2-8-2T No.141TA.137 (ex-Etat No.40-137) in SNCF lined green livery at Longueville depot during the AJECTA Festival, 8 May 2023. No.40.137 was built in 1922 by ANF Blanc Misseron (Works No.143).
143 engines were built in 1914 and 1920-22, production being interrupted by WWI. A variety of private workshops and the Etat’s former Ouest Works at Sotteville. Similar locos were built for private industry. The class was put to work on heavy shunting duties all over the Etat system. During WWI two were taken by the German army and returned in 1919/22 whilst in WWII 52 were taken to Germany but only 27 returned, 25 having been destroyed. In the 1950’s and 1960’s 12 were sold to private industry. The last SNCF 040TA’s were withdrawn in the late 1960’s but some survived in industry for a little longer. |
