Summary

[edit]
Description
English: BR Diagram 1/069 'Conflat A' fitted 13 ton container flat No.B506889, Lot 3153, built at Pressed Steel in 1959; BR (Swindon, Derby, Ashford & Wolverton) and the private builders Pressed Steel and Central Wagon built 11,941 fitted Diag.1/069's of 11, 12 or 13 ton capacity in 1957-58. TOPS Code ZVV. This wagon later became an internal user wagon No.CDB506889 (later No.024874) at Wolverton Works. Pictured at Alton, Mid Hants Railway, 30 April 2021.

The Conflat A was by far the most widely built of the various container flat types by BR in the steam era, 20,089 being constructed in 1950-58. Six diagrams were issued for the sub-types of Conflat A (all fitted) with only minor differences between the diagrams and although capacities varied between 11-13 tons, this change seemed more because of policy changes rather than any structural differences.

400 13 ton Diag.1/61’s were built by BR (Swindon & Wolverton) in 1950; 2,200 12 ton Diag.1/62 by BR (Swindon) in 1951-53; 1,000 12 ton Diag.1/65 by BR (Swindon) in 1954; 4,500 11/12 ton Diag.1/67 by BR (Swindon, Derby & Ashford) in 1955-56; 11,941 11/12/13 ton Diag.1/69 built by BR (Swindon, Derby, Ashford & Wolverton), Pressed Steel and Central Wagon in 1957-58; and 48 13/14 ton Diag.1/70 by BR (Swindon) in 1958.
