Description: The ruins of Ma'on The ancient synagogue is located in the ruins of Ma'on (Arabic Harbat al-Ma'in) which is an archaeological site located near the Ma'on junction, east of Kibbutz Nirim in the northwestern Negev and about 20 km south of Gaza.

הערות: חורבת מעון בית הכנסת העתיק שוכן בחורבת מעון (ערבית חרבת אל-מעין) שהיא אתר ארכאולוגי השוכן ליד צומת מעון, ממזרח לקיבוץ נירים שבנגב הצפון-מערבי וכ-20 ק"מ מדרום לעזה. במקום שכן יישוב יהודי בשם מעון המזוהה עם "מנואיס" שבמפת מידבא. היישוב הגיע לשיאו בתקופה הביזנטית במאות ה-5 וה-6, אולם למעט שרידי בית כנסת, כל שנותר ממנו הוא בור מים ושני מבנים. בית הכנסת נחשף בעת סלילת הכביש הסמוך בשנים 1957-1958. אורכו של המבנה 17 מטרים ורוחבו 15 מטרים. תקרתו הייתה עשויה קורות עץ וטין, והיו בו שלוש סיטראות שביניהן.
