English: 6 minute exposure of comet 118P/Shoemaker-Levy with a 24" telescope. Comet 118P was 2.0 AU from the Sun with perihelion (closest approach to the Sun) having occurred on January 2nd, 2010. You can just make out signs of a cometary tail in this image taken 2010-03-05 03:00 UT. The star just to the left of the comet is magnitude 18. |
