Description 127-GW-306-178495: Battle for Iwo Jima, February-March 1945. Suribachi Machine Gun Nest: An aggressor machine gunner of the aggressor teams on the island of Iwo Jima, points his deadly weapon over the beach approaches to the island. In the background can be seen the landing forces of the 3rd Marine Division, FMF as they hit the beaches during the most recent all-Marine Division amphibious exercises on Iwo Jima. This machine gun in mounted on top reaches of the famous Suribachi where the world famous flag-raising photograph was taken. Photographed by C. Adleman.
