Architecture and artwork at the Nandodi gate

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Nandodi Gate, also known as Nandodi Bhagol, is the southern gate of the historic Dabhoi fort. Like the other Dabhoi Durg gates, it too is carved with Hindu artwork. These are severely mutilated. The notable artwork include Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva reliefs. Brahma is recognizable because of the three damaged heads, while Shiva is with Nandi. Other intricate Hindu artwork is on the lintel, outer wall, pilasters, and on the brackets. The Nandodi gate is smaller than the other gates. Along the passage of the gate is a small room embedded on both sides of the gate. These rooms are about 60 square feet. The gate had a thick outer and inner door, but this is no longer present.
