Summary
[edit]Description16 Scott Street, Liverpool, New South Wales 02.jpg |
English: 16 Scott Street in Liverpool, New South Wales, is a heritage listed building. It is a two storeyed, double gable-roofed commercial building of painted brickwork (probably originally face-brickwork or limewashed). It has been altered internally and externally but retains some original/early features, most notable the overall building form and window openings on the second floor (sash, framing and fanlight components). Small infilled windows at the tops of the gable end suggest the possible original use of the attic space. The shop front façade below the suspended steel awning has been modernised. The large window to the east and all windows to the west of the entrance door have been removed and infilled with brick.
There has been a number of alterations to the site throughout its lifetime, including replacement of the first floor windows/French door and removal of interior fittings and finishes. Since 1992 the front façade has been altered. This probably relates to the change of use of the building from a Laundry to a Betting office?. Almost all the front windows on the lower floor have been removed and infilled with brick. The upper floor brickwork facade covered in advertisements in 1992, has been repainted and a sign removed from the steel awning. Overall modifications to the upper storey contrast with the inappropriate and unattractive exterior modifications to the lower storey.
