JPEG file comment | UNKNOWN MASTER, German
(active around 1510 in Cologne) Epiphany c. 1510 Oak, 81 x 135 cm Staatliche Museen, Berlin The painter of this panel is referred to as the Master of the Aachen Altar. Hugo van der Goes is known to have traveled to Cologne in 1481 with several of the Augustinian monks whose order he joined s a lay brother. This Epiphany painted in Cologne around 1500 may well reflect some lost commission that van der Goes might have delivered there.
