Salsal Buddha in Bamyan city.
Summary
[edit]Description17- Buddha Salsal.jpg |
English: At the beginning of the 7th century, Yaqut gave a detailed account of Bamyan and the great idols of Bamyan. One is called Bad Red and the other is called Bad Bad (Red Buddha and Gray Buddha) and is said to have no counterpart in the whole world. Qazvini also mentions the Golden House of Bamyan and two large Buddha statues.
There is a lot of talk about making Buddha statues in Bamyan. Archaeologists say the building was probably built between 300 and 400 AD. Some say more accurately that the large statue of Buddha (53 meters) was built in the fifth century AD and the small statue in the second half of the third century AD, and the surrounding decorations, including the nests, were carved in the next century. But some archaeologists believe the Buddha statues were built around 800 BC. In the 18th and 19th centuries, most of Afghanistan's historical records of Buddhism in Bamiyan were destroyed by the sultans of the time. |
