English: A wintertime photo of the south side of Hamilton Street, about 1880. Note the snow piled alongside of the street in Center Square. The photo was probably taken from a balcony or a porch just to the east of the square. Note there are no electrical or telephone wires on poles. That dates this photo to the early 1880s, as electricity came to Allentown in the late 1880s, and telephone service in the 1890s. Also there is no Soldier's and Sailor's monument, that would not be erected until 1899. The street is unpaved with a single horse-drawn trolley tracks down the middle of Hamilton Street. A. M. Springer & Company was a general grocery and dry goods store. It would remain in business until 1919 when it was torn down for the Merchant's National Bank (now Wells Fargo) building was erected.
