Description
English: 
De Naald van Waterloo, commemorating the latest Victories by the Allies over the French dictator Napoleone Buonaparte (1765-1821) – at Quatre-Bras (1815, June 16th) and Waterloo (1815, June 18th) – thus putting an end to two decades of repeated wars and their endless tallies of deaths, systematic looting and ruins all over Europe. 

1 – Front face, when looking towards Soestdijk Palace – West (WSW). The medallion reads : 

Ter eere / van / WILLEM FREDERIK GEORGE LODEWIJK / Prins van Oranje / die / aan het hoofd der Nederlandsche Legerbenden / door zÿn moed en beleid / op den 16 Juny 1815 / aan den viersprong / boven Brussel / het eerst den aanval der Franschen / wederstond / de overwinning bÿ Waterloo behaald / voorbereidde / en / Neerlands onafhankelÿkheid /  behield / Het dankbare Vaderland
