Summary[edit]

Description
English: Title

1904 towers Subject 1 Saint Joseph Hospital (Denver, Colo.) --history Subject 2 Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth (Kan.) Subject 3 Hospitals, Religious--history--Colorado Description 1900 Hospital The original “Twin Towers” building was designed by the Baerresen Brothers, Architects, and built by the Cooke Brothers. The cornerstone was laid in 1899 and the hospital was occupied in 1900. “The structure featured two seven-story towers and, between them, another five-story section. To be built of brick and sandstone, the towers were unusual, eight-sided spires that would face west…” (Fishell, Dave. Towers of Healing: The First 125 Years of Denver's Saint Joseph Hospital. Denver, Colorado: Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation, 1999, p. 71). Margaret (Unsinkable Molly) Brown, Mrs. J.K. Mullen, Mrs. John F. Campion, Mrs. W.C. Daniels, and Mrs. Joseph Thatcher were among about 100 Denver women that planned social events to raise money for the new building. The original cost estimate for the building was $60,000.00, but it ended up costing $200,000.00, according to an appraisal done in the 1930s.
