Summary
[edit]Description1909 Tyee - wireless.jpg |
English: Cartoon in 1909 Tyee (yearbook of the University of Washington). Caption: "The wireless sends message / By hertzian wave and spark / While he and she their love assuage / By sparking in the dark". At upper left is a radio shack with a tower emanating bolts of electricity. At lower right is a couple under a tree whose form is similar to the radio tower. The cartoon—especially the representation of the tree—shows some Japanese influence, possibly via the Arts and Crafts movement. Wireless would have been a very contemporary topic in 1909; this cartoon would slightly predate Marconi's Nobel Prize. |
