GM created Pontiac in 1926, as a cheaper line of 6 cyl cars, sold beside the more expensive Oakland. The Oakland was dropped in 1933, leaving just the Pontiac, which was then sold along side the 4 cyl Chevrolet. The Pontiac line from 1942 consisted of 2 series; the 119 inch wheelbase Torpedo and the 122 inch wheelbase fastback style Streamliner From 1946 to 1948, all models were essentially 1942 models with minor changes. Torpedo models had shorter trim on the front fenders and painted pin stripes. Also raised feathers on the hood ornaments, Streamliners had swept-back hood ornaments and chrome-trimmed pin stripes. Unique to the Streamliner Eights were front fender badges just behind the wheel openings. The Torpedo 6 cyl 25 Series and the Torpedo 8 cyl 27 Series were available in 2 and 4 door Sedan, 2 door Coupe, Sport Coupe and Convertible.
