Summary[edit]

Description

C4B POST WAR CLASSIC (AMERICAN & AUSTRALIAN)

In December of 1958, Bill Mitchell was named as successor for Harley Earl and appointed as director of GM Styling. Earl had taken notice of Mitchell's talents in 1935 and was given an opportunity to work with Earl in GM's Art & Colour section.

Where Earl's designer's were often considered flamboyant, Mitchell's were contemporary, and this was reflective on the Corvette for 1959, which were given minor changes such as eliminating the hood's washboard lover effect and the rear deck's chrome spears.

In an era of chrome and four headlamps, the Corvette succumbed to the look of the day. The 1958 model year and the four that followed all had the exposed four-headlamp treatment and prominent grills, but a faux-louvered hood and chrome trunk spears were unique in 1958.
