In 1961 Carroll Shelby in America entered into negotiations with English car company, AC Cars. Backed by Ford, Shelby proposed the installation of an American Ford V8 in the AC Ace, the fusion of brute American horsepower and British aesthetics resulted in the AC Cobra, one of the fastest and most brutal sports car of all times. The 1962 Mk I Shelby Cobra, first 75 cars got the Ford Windsor 260 cu in V8, the remaining 51, the 289 The 1963-65 Mk II got rack and pinion steering all 289 cu in,(528 made) Mk I and Mk II CSX 2000- 2602 The 1965-67 Mk III got a new chassis, coil suspension all round, wider fenders, wider radiator opening and the legendary 427 cu in V8 (300 made). 27 slab sided 289 Mk IIIs were also built. Only two of these factory built Slalom Snake Cobras were built in 1964, built for Autocross or high performance street driving. Both cars were painted white with twin red stripes, came with 5 spoke American magnesium wheels, front and rear sway bars, brake scoops, koni shocks, hood scoop and roll bar.
