English: Clockwise: England wins the 1966 World Cup, Indira Gandhi is elected the first female Prime Minister of India; British Guiana achieves independence as Guyana; the Beach Boys record Pet Sounds, widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential albums ever made; Te Ātairangikaahu becomes the first Māori queen and reigns for 40 years; Mao Zeadong launches the ineffective and extremely deadly Cultural Revolution to purge surviving remnants of pre-Communist society; the Black Panther party, a major American black power political organization, is formed in Oakland, California; Harold Wilson wins a landslide general election, further entrenching Britain's anti-Vietnam war stance; Ronald Reagan is elected Governor of California in a landslide on a "law and order" platform, prefacing his future American presidency.
