Summary
[edit]Description1968 Soapbox Racer.jpg |
English: A soap box racer from 1968. This particular racer participated in soap box races throughout Quebec and Ontario, Canada that were non-franchise events using the Soap Box Derby template but not qualifying for the All-American Nationals in Akron, Ohio. It raced for a total of five years as a rally entrant, winning "best constructed racer" at the Kinsmen Coaster Classic in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1968. Many communities in Canada and the US ran non-franchise events alongside the Official Soap Box Derby local races that sent champions to the All-American. Canada sent two of their own in 1968. Winners of non-franchise events, like the race in Montreal and other events that this car participated in, did not qualify. This racer was constructed according to the Derby's strict regulations nevertheless, comprising design features such as a low, curvilinear body constructed in pine strips over frames, and axletrees over the axles. This illustration was sampled from a SketchUp digital 3D model, seen here, and both are created by Bill Wrigley, Toronto, Canada. |
