The Leyland P76 was a large car that was produced by Leyland Australia, the Australian subsidiary of British Leyland, Built from 1973-75, It was direct competition for the Australian for the Ford Falcon, Holden Kingswood and Chrysler Valiant of the time. Sedan only available This is the bread and butter version, the Deluxe, available in 6 cyl or V8, optional were carpet, bucket seats and floor shift, easily identifed by the single headlight front. Also available were the upmarket Super or Executive, sports Targa Florio, also 8 Force 7 Coupe Prototypes are still around. The P76 didn't last long as Leyland were in serious financial trouble before the P76 hit the showroom floors. A combination of hard to sell, due to the World wide oil crisis and a short supply of parts due to strikes, put the final nails in Leyland Australias coffin. Engines; 2623cc 6 cyl from the Austin Kimberley and Tasman, or 4416 alloy V8, a derivitive of the ex Buick Rover V8 |
