Loi Krathong is an annual festival held on the evening of the full moon of the twelfth month in the Thai lunar calendar (which is usually in November). Loi means ‘to float’ and krathong means ‘small container made of leaves.’ Celebrants fashion little baskets in a lotus-flower shape using folded banana leaves atop disks cut from the trunk of a banana tree that are sent afloat with a lit candle, three incense sticks, and other offerings.
