The Octagon Temple in Jingzhen Village in western Xishuangbanna District (extreme south of Yunnan province; prefectural seat is Jinghong straddling the Mekong River) was built by the local Dai people in 1701 mimicking the lotus shape of the Buddha’s golden cap.
