Summary[edit]
Description1ATF commander Brigadier S. P. Weir with Major General R. A. Hay at Nui Dat, February 1970.jpg |
English: Nui Dat, South Vietnam. February 1970. A presentation by the Commander of the Australian Force Vietnam (COMAFV), Major General (Maj Gen) R. A. Hay (right) of a plaque from the Rats of Tobruk Association to the Commander of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF), Brigadier S. P. Weir. An accompanying letter from the Secretary of the Association, Mr R. Scott of Neutral Bay, NSW, said that members of the Rats of Tobruk Association wanted Maj Gen Hay to make the presentation to the Task Force. 'In asking you to present this plaque we would like to mention that we have followed the fortunes of the officers and men of the Task Force with the greatest interest, and have no hesitation in saying that these officers and men have upheld the highest tradition of the Australian soldier. They are a great credit both to themselves and their country. To those men serving their country so gallantly, we wish them God Speed and a safe return. We would like to thank you for carrying out this task for us and express the hope that one day General Hay we will be able to welcome you at one of our functions and express our thanks personally.' |
